St. John’s Antigua, October 15, 2021. The Statistics Division, under the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance celebrates Caribbean Statistics Day 2021, under the theme: “Leave No One Behind… Everyone Counts”, with the launch of an improved website.
Scope of Work
The Statistics Division has redesigned and optimized its website, with the assistance of the Government of Canada through the Project for the Regional Advancement of Statistics in the Caribbean (PRASC). The Website Redesign Project commenced in May 2021 and was completed in September 2021. Under this project many new design changes were made to the website, as well as the addition of new features and content.
New Design
The overall design and layout of the website has been changed to allow for an improved aesthetic and a user-friendly experience. The website now presents a new colour scheme and a wider variety of design features.
Improved and New Features
The website has been optimized so that content can be better viewed on various types of devices, browsers and operating systems. The menu bar and other navigation options have been improved and organized by subject for a more intuitive layout and user-friendly experience. Data tables are now available in HTML format for easier viewing of the data and are also available in various formats for users who wish to print or download the data tables.
Additional Content
A page dedicated exclusively to COVID-19 information is now available, which provides COVID-19 information and basic related statistics. Statistical information is also now available at a glance, in the form of infographics, which allows for a more visual representation of the happenings within various thematic areas.
Benefits to the User
These new features were designed to be more user-friendly, and to increase the ease with which statistical information can be obtained by users including the public, government, NGOs, development partners, researchers, academia among others. The improvements increase the ease with which the user can quickly access data under a wide variety of thematic areas, and able to request data from the Statistics Division directly from the website. Therefore, the improved website allows users to have more access to information of interest to them.
This activity is part of the initiative to strengthen the production of official statistics and improve availability to users. In the upcoming months, the Division will continue the work to improve the website by further expanding the scope of statistics available, enhance users’ ability to interact with data, and develop new statistical products to improve data visualization and presentation of statistics. Also, the Division will engage with its stakeholders to better understand user needs to continue providing them with high quality official statistics with products that meet their needs.
The Statistics Division would like to thank Statistics Canada for their assistance and support in undertaking this project. Thanks to the staff of the Statistics Division, especially members of the website team that worked arduously on the project and provided critical inputs to ensure the success of the project. The Statistics Division would also like to thank the Ministry of Information for their support during the process.
