Imports up 39.6%, Exports up 138.7% in the Second Quarter 2021

St. John’s Antigua, March 17, 2022. The Statistics Division under the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance releases the International Merchandise Trade Bulletin for the Second Quarter 2021.


In the second quarter of 2021, Antigua and Barbuda total imports were valued at EC$ 374.2 million, an increase of 39.6% when compared to EC$ 268.0 million for the same period in 2020 according to figures compiled by the Statistics Division.

This was largely due to increase in imports of Minerals fuels, lubricants and related materials (+95.2%), Machinery and transport equipment (+22.6%), Manufactured goods classified chiefly by material (+37.1%), Miscellaneous manufactured articles (+67.2%), Food and live animals (+18.8%) and Crude materials, inedible, except fuels (+241.6%).


Total exports increased by 138.7% to EC$ 11.8 million during the period April to June 2021 when compared to EC$ 4.9 million for the same period in 2020.


The overall increase in imports from Antigua and Barbuda top ten partner countries was driven by United States of America (+61.9%), China (+58.3%), Trinidad and Tobago (+4.7%) and United Kingdom (+43.2%).


Imports from CARICOM countries during the second quarter of 2021 were valued at EC$ 31.1 million, a decrease of 9.8% when compared to EC$ 34.5 million for the same period in 2020.

Total exports to CARICOM countries increase by 349.6% to EC $7.2 million, when compared to EC $1.6 million for the same period in 2020.
