
St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda – June 25, 2025, has been designated as Census Day in Antigua and Barbuda.
This announcement was made recently during the official launch of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), previously known as the Statistics Division, alongside the nation’s 2025 Population and Housing Census.
The event, hosted at the John E. St. Luce Finance and Conference Centre, represented a significant advancement in the country’s statistical initiatives, paving the way for an extensive data collection process that will shape the nation’s future.
The ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Hon. Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Minister of Finance, Corporate Governance and Public-Private Partnerships, as well as the Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Chet Greene, and various high-ranking officials from both the public and private sectors underscoring the census’s national significance and the collaborative effort involved.
The slogan for the 2025 Census, “Mapping the Present, Shaping the Future,” was submitted by ten-year-old Asahi Joseph from the Villa Primary School, who emerged victorious from a competitive selection process. During the launch, the National Bureau of Statistics recognized the winner of the national slogan competition, awarding him a cash prize of $500.00, a Samsung Tablet, and a certificate to honour his contribution to the census initiative.
“The Census is an essential national endeavor that enables us to comprehend the demographics and needs of our population,” remarked Mr. Statchel Edwards, Chief Statistician/Census Officer.
“The information gathered will be crucial in informing our national development strategies and ensuring effective resource allocation,” adds Prime Minister, Hon. Gaston Browne.
Field operations for the census will commence on June 26, 2025, with census officers visiting households throughout Antigua and Barbuda to gather vital information. The census aims to deliver essential data regarding the demographic, social, and economic characteristics of the population.
This information will serve as a foundation for evidence-based policy-making, resource allocation, and development planning across all sectors of society
