St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda – October 15, 2025 Antigua and Barbuda today joined the rest of the region in observing Caribbean Statistics Day, an annual occasion that highlights the critical role of statistics in shaping our societies.
While this year’s celebrations are more subdued than in previous years, the spotlight firmly rests on the ongoing 2025 Population and Housing Census—the country’s largest and most important statistical exercise. The Census provides a comprehensive snapshot of the nation’s population and housing, ensuring that government, businesses, and communities have reliable data to guide planning and decision-making.
The Census Office continues to encourage all residents to give their full cooperation to field workers as they conduct household interviews. This collective effort ensures that everyone is counted and that no community is left behind.
Speaking on the occasion, Census Officer and Director of the National Bureau of Statistics, Statchel Edwards, emphasized:
“Our work is driven by one simple but powerful goal: to provide accurate, timely, and relevant data as a public good that empowers national development and improves people’s lives. Whether it is guiding government policy, informing business investment, or supporting community initiatives, statistics are the invisible thread that connects knowledge to action.”
Caribbean Statistics Day 2025 is celebrated under the theme:
“Improving Lives through Statistics: Strengthening and Innovating Together.”
This theme underscores the importance of collaboration, innovation, and the use of statistics as a foundation for better governance, stronger economies, and more resilient communities.
As Antigua and Barbuda continues its Census operations, today serves as a reminder that statistics are more than just numbers; they are essential tools for improving lives and shaping the future.
