St. John’s Antigua, September 6, 2022. The Statistics Division under the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance releases the International Merchandise Trade Bulletin for the Fourth Quarter 2021.
IMPORTS
In the Fourth quarter of 2021, Antigua and Barbuda total imports were valued at EC$ 510.2 million, an increase of 50.3% when compared to EC$ 339.4 million for the same period in 2020 according to figures compiled by the Statistics Division.
This was largely due to increase in imports of Minerals fuels, lubricants and related materials (+106.4%), Machinery and transport equipment 40.3%, Manufactured goods classified chiefly by material 59.4%, Miscellaneous manufactured articles 59.2% and Food and live animals 28.1%.
EXPORTS
Total exports increased by 35.9% to EC$ 15.2 million during the period October to December 2021 when compared to EC$ 11.2 million for the same period in 2020.
PARTNER COUNTRIES
The overall increase in imports from Antigua and Barbuda top ten trading partners was driven by increased imports from the United States of America (+40.8%), Canada (+416.4%), China (+33.2%) and Trinidad and Tobago (+33.0%).
CARICOM TRADE
Imports from CARICOM member countries during the fourth quarter of 2021 were valued at EC$ 46.3 million, an increase of 38.2% when compared to EC$ 33.5 million for the same period in 2020.
Total exports to CARICOM countries decreased by 36.5% to EC $1.8 million, when compared to EC$ 2.9 million for the same period in 2020.
